Food Preparation and Nutrition provides a coherent, satisfying and worthwhile programme of study for learners who have a desire to develop their skills and knowledge in food preparation and the principles behind healthy eating. The qualification in Food Preparation and Nutrition enables you to make connections between theory and practice so that you are able to apply your understanding of food science and nutrition to practical cooking.
The course content:
Assessment
15% - Assessment 1: The Food Investigation Assessment
A scientific food investigation which will assess the learner’s knowledge, skills and understanding in relation to scientific principles underlying the preparation and cooking of food.
35% - Assessment 2: The Food Preparation Assessment
Prepare, cook and present a menu which assesses the learner’s knowledge, skills and understanding in relation to the planning, preparation, cooking and presentation of food.
50% - Examination: Principles of Food Preparation and Nutrition
This component will consist of two sections both containing compulsory questions and will assess the six areas of content as listed in the course content above.

Where can it take me?
Food skills will help you through-out life. They would be an advantage in careers in catering, restaurant management, chef, food product designer, food critic/writer, supermarket manager, nutritionist, teacher and food technologist.
