Maths Teacher, Mr Ali, has been volunteering at a Smethwick JMA Food Bank for several months.
Mr Ali co-runs the Food Bank with friends and they have over 20 volunteers, including a student who is gaining some work experience for his CV. Packs of non-perishable items are given out to families on a weekly basis, typically consisting of pasta, rice, beans, tinned tomatoes, cereal, biscuits, oil and chickpeas. The Food Bank has 35 families who collect from them once a week, and in addition a delivery service is offered for families who are unable to collect. This means the Food Bank is feeding well over 100 people!
The Food Bank service has been operating for over six months, but as a team Mr Ali and his friends have been involved with delivering food since the pandemic started in March 2020.
The Food Bank deals with donations from many organisations across Birmingham and Sandwell but will always welcome more from business and individuals. If you would like to help, please contact Mr Ali about this worthy cause.
