Windsor High School and Sixth Form is the lucky winner of 100 books by BAME writers as part of Lit In Colour, which is a collaborative project between Penguin Books and the Runnymede Trust. The project explores how to support schools to make the teaching and learning of English literature more inclusive and increase students’ access to more books by writers of colour.
The English Faculty held a celebratory "unboxing" event in the Library to enable students to have a first look at the books. Staff and students attended and were able to unwrap some of the books, as you can see from the pictures. Students were excited to see what book they would open and perhaps read something that they might not normally read.
One student in Year 8 said, "Lit in Colour is not only great at diversifying our range of books but it makes people of colour, including myself, feel included. That’s not all - the Library has a range of books, from talking about criminal injustice, LGBTQ+ representation, and inspiring stories from people like Barack Obama".
