Care Home Reading Project

Over the past few months, a selection of keen readers have volunteered to participate in Windsor's Care Home Reading Project with Lapal House Residential Home. So far, we have had three sessions of reading to the residents, where we have shared books and poems to them, which they have thoroughly enjoyed.

In December, we visited the residents at their care home and we read to them a Christmas themed poem, which then got recorded and created into an advent calendar. This has now been shared to schools across the Trust.

In the most recent session with them the residents visited us at Windsor. We read a selection of Christmas books to them, and to get into the festive spirit, we indulged in mince pies and listened to some Christmas songs.

Some of our students have let us know how this has made them feel, and you can see the quotes below.

Eleanor, Year 10, said:

I have learnt new things about different people, meeting new people, reading different books and poems, getting to know people and their stories."

Caleb, Year 10, said:

I have enjoyed this because it brings the older and younger generation together, we are meeting new people who have a different perspective on life."
