Reminder: School will be closed for students on Monday 9th December for an Inset day.
We support students in becoming successful in all aspects of life, helping them achieve academic success and become well-rounded individuals.
Personal, Social, Health and Education (PSHE) delivers the lessons and challenges needed to support students’ wellbeing through school and into adulthood. It helps students learn how to be active, informed, safe and responsible citizens in modern Britain.
PSHE includes topics such as:
PSHE links to our key themes throughout the year, and is supported by assembly programmes.
Students learn to look at things from different points of view and to understand and respect the opinions of others within society. This helps students understand and engage with the structure of our democratic society: politics, the economy and the law.
There are links with many other subjects. Emotions and our ability to regulate them affect our learning, behaviour and future health, wealth and happiness. Therefore working to understand and manage emotions enhances time management skills, social contact and acceptance of difference, academic results and self-confidence and decreases interrupting, fidgeting, challenging and disruptive behaviour.
Our focus on British values and life in modern Britain aims to ensures students understand their place in the community, Britain and globally. We progressively look at democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect for and tolerance of, those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith. We aim to challenge preconceptions and stimulate meaningful discussions with and between students to ensure our young people are ready to play their part in modern Britain.
Our focus is on providing the right education to help young people make their own decisions and take responsibility for their lives and communities. PSHE helps to create a fair, inclusive and cohesive society, through the topics studied.
We want to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to take part and drive change as influential citizens, both as individuals and as communities.
PSHE and RSE are taught through specialist timetabled days. Work is consolidated through tutor time. We bring specialist staff to deliver on these days.
External speakers are an integral part of PSHE. We use outside agencies where possible to deliver topics to students such as drug education, alcohol, CSE and diversity, to name a few.
