Year 7 Enterprise Club Success!

15th July 2024

During the autumn term 2023 a group of Year 7 students joined Enterprise Club, meeting after school -  their task was to learn how to set up a business and make a profit. Through our ASPIRE principles of being responsible, compassionate and creative students were encouraged to work collaboratively, deciding that any profit at the end of the year should be donated to Comic Relief.

Students initial discussions focused on where there was a need or a problem they could help improve. The outcome was to develop products that support a sustainable future, hence their Business name and strapline - “ColabCreations” - where sustainability matters. With a £10 ‘start-up’ fund, our entrepreneurs were eagerly on their way by making Christmas decorations to sell from items that would normally be thrown away, including upcycling jam jars into Christmas candle holders and old socks into snowmen. The project was successful, making £47 profit from their first venture!

Their enthusiasm was infectious and students were keen to build on their skills and success during the spring term. As students at Windsor High School were being encouraged to bring in their own water bottles to reduce the number of plastic cups that were being used and plastic bottles that were being thrown away, our young entrepreneurs thought it seemed an ideal enterprise activity to sell personalised water bottles. Orders were coming in fast from students and staff alike, making £133 from their second venture!

A final project in order to increase ColabCreations profit for charity, use up materials from the water bottles and skills they had learnt on the Cricut machine, was to produce personalised keychains. These again sold really well making £84 profit.

In total our amazing Year 7 entrepreneurs have made £275 during the project which will be sent to Comic Relief.

Some of the students said:

I enjoyed the third term of the Enterprise Club as making keychains was a group idea and was fun to do. We made lots of money and it was great to make new friends.”

I enjoyed Enterprise Club and I have learnt to make new stuff like keyrings and water bottles.”

Enterprise Club was a really enjoyable club! Although it was hard to gain ideas at the start, we did a lot of research and worked collaboratively to eventually gain ideas throughout the year that have taught us skills like resilience and responsibility with handling the products and orders.”

I have really enjoyed working with Year 7 on their enterprise projects, I have learnt to be creative and make keyrings which was very fun to do, but also in supporting them I have developed my communication skills”.
