Windsor High School students take part in German online learning research

6th February 2023

On 3rd February, some of our Year 9 German Language Leaders met virtually with two representatives from PASCH (Schools: Partners for the Future) and the European Commission to undertake additional testing and feedback on the use of an App on trial. The App is entitled ‘Knights of the European Grail’ and is the development of a computer-based game to support language learning. The exciting project is in conjunction with Reading University and is funded by the European Erasmus+ project. Our links through the German PASCH project with the Goethe Institut means that our students were offered the opportunity to test out the digital product.

During the testing, the Year 9 learners were asked to complete a short German vocabulary test and play the computer-based language game. Following the game they were then asked to complete a short questionnaire in English. The questionnaire asked about learners’ experience of playing the game as well as posing some background questions about their views on learning German in general. Their feedback will be used in the development of the final product.

We were thrilled to take part in this study and our students themselves enjoyed the afternoon. Students Tamzin and Evie said:

We had fun playing and testing the game. We got to learn some new German words and we cannot wait to see the improvements that they make.”

Our German Language Leaders look forward to working on another exciting project with our PASCH partners in the near future.
