Chance to Compete Cricket Competition

22nd May 2025

Windsor High School proudly emerged as County Champions after a day of outstanding cricket at the Chance to Compete Cricket Competition, hosted by Worcestershire County Cricket Association at the picturesque Bromsgrove Cricket Club.

This 8-a-side, 50-ball format required all players to bowl, placing emphasis on consistency, control, and teamwork. The Windsor team rose to the occasion, demonstrating a blend of skill, strategy, and camaraderie throughout the tournament.

The competition began with a string of calm and composed performances, particularly from Flo and Safiyah, who set the tone with focused opening partnerships. Batting strength was evident across the squad, with Izzy D leading from the front and sending multiple sixes soaring over the boundary. Every player contributed with the bat, showcasing depth and confidence under pressure.

In the field, Windsor’s players worked cohesively to maintain pressure on the opposition. Backing up was tight, communication was sharp, and the team’s energy never wavered. Spectators were treated to several sensational catches, most notably from Caitlyn, Imogen, and Safiyah, whose athletic efforts turned the tide in key moments.

A highlight of the day was the expert captaincy of Izzy D, who set intelligent and responsive fields, adapting to the strengths of each opponent and displaying strong tactical awareness throughout the four games played.

Well done to Year 7 players Zara and Emily, who were selected to gain valuable experience and rose to the challenge with maturity beyond their years.

Windsor’s cohesion, sportsmanship, and relentless determination earned them a place in the final against South Bromsgrove School. In a tense and exciting match, Windsor High School came out on top, winning by 71 runs to 48, sealing their place as County Champions.

With this victory, the team now progresses to the Regional Finals in Birmingham, set for late June or early July. With continued focus and hard work, the team hopes to carry their winning momentum forward and represent Worcestershire with pride.

A huge congratulations to all players involved for their effort, enthusiasm, and team spirit. A special thank you to our sixth form coaches and scorers, Ellie Roach and Isabelle Peverelli - who have been extremely positive role models to our players during coaching sessions and tournaments throughout their time at WHS. The PE Department and everyone at Windsor High School and Sixth Form are incredibly proud. We wish the team the best of luck as they prepare for the next stage of this exciting journey!
